The amount of sleep children need varies significantly depending on their age. Here’s a general guideline for the recommended hours of sleep per day for children from newborn to the teenage years:
a) Newborns (0-3 months): 14-18 hours of sleep per day.
b) Infants (4-11 months): 13-16 hours of sleep per day.
c) Toddlers (1-2 years): 12-14 hours of sleep per day.
4) Preschoolers (3-5 years): 10-13 hours of sleep per day.
5) School-age children (6-12 years): 9-12 hours of sleep per day.
6) Teenagers (13-18 years): 8-10 hours of sleep per day.
It’s essential to remember that these are general guidelines, and individual children may have slightly different sleep needs. Ensuring that children get enough sleep is crucial for their growth, development, and overall well-being. If you have concerns about your child’s sleep patterns, a free evaluation call (link: https://calendly.com/wellwishes/20min?back=1&month=2023-08) would help you know whether your child is getting adequate sleep or would benefit from having a few more Zzzz in a 24 hour period.
A Foundation For Sleep
First, we find a time to connect in a 20-minute Evaluation Call to see if it’s possible for us to help your family or not. If you decide to invest in sleep support, you can pay your invoice and sign our agreement and we will start planning a time to start your sleep plan. You will need to check your calendar and find a time when you have at least 3 weeks of “normal” activity, free from disruptions such as vacations, big events, visitors, or work schedule changes.
Upon completing the invoice and securing your consultation, you’ll receive a sleep log and questionnaire to fill out. Please take your time and return it to your consultant at least 2 days before our sleep plan consultation.
Starting Your Sleep Plan
Your sleep plan consultation happens on the day you plan to start your sleep plan so you can feel confident and supported as you go into your new routines. During our hour-log consultation, we’ll go step by step over your child’s sleep plan and discuss how to approach bedtime, night wakings, and naps. Rest assured, all your questions and concerns will be met with understanding and support.
If the consultation takes place at your home, your consultant will mindfully assess the nursery and provide recommendations to create an optimal sleep environment.
Follow Up Support
We are here to ensure that you feel guided and supported throughout the sleep learning process. Families who purchase a full support package receive:
a) ) 20-minute follow-up call for the morning after you implement the plan, allowing for adjustments if needed.
b) 2 weekly follow up calls to ensure success and to reassure you along the way.
c) Daily email support as needed for your 2-week support period.
d) 1 Graduation Call to make sure that children are sleeping like champs, and parents are feeling like sleep experts themselves. We will address upcoming sleep milestones and transitions you may have questions/concerns about.
With mindfulness and support, we’ll embark on this sleep training path together, paving the way for peaceful and restful nights for you and your little one.
Having our consultants create a customized sleep assures that babies and kids learn sleep skills quickly! Typically babies are sleeping through the night in 2-3 nights. If there is still a fair amount of waking and protest happening after day five, we will do some digging to figure out what may be confusing them and make adjustments to the plan.
Absolutely! We have a IBCLC Lactation consultant on our team, and we are here to help you continue breastfeeding in a way that helps babies get optimal sleep AND all the milk they need each day for growth and development! Many families who are struggling with reflux or weight gain see great improvements using our sleep plans.
We have already researched and tried everything to get our baby to sleep better, how can you help us?
By the time you’ve found your way to our website, we understand that you might be feeling exhausted from trying to solve your child’s sleep challenges all on your own. Here at Mindful Parenting Revolution, we want you to know that you can finally rest confidently (yes, literally!) because we’re dedicated to addressing your child’s unique challenges with care and understanding.
No two children are alike, and we fully embrace that truth. That’s why we never resort to a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, you’ll receive a personalized sleep plan specifically tailored to your child’s sleep and behavioral needs. This customized plan is the foundation of your journey towards better sleep.
But our support doesn’t stop there! We’re with you via email and follow up calls as you implement your child’s sleep plan. We understand that sometimes adjustments are needed as we navigate through the process, and that’s absolutely okay.
Our dedication to your family’s sleep doesn’t end with just one consultation. The Mindful Parenting Revolution community provides support for lactation, nutrition, postpartum doula support and education around tantrums, mealtimes, cooperation and more.
We genuinely care about your child’s sleep journey and the positive impact it will have on your lives. So let’s embark on this path together, hand in hand, towards restful nights and brighter days. You’ve got this, and we’ve got you!
No, at Mindful Parenting Revolution we believe in a gentle and supportive approach. We steer clear of the “cry it out” method, which involves putting your child down awake, shutting the door, and leaving them alone until morning. That approach doesn’t align with what we feel comfortable using with our own kids, and we certainly wouldn’t expect you to use it either. Instead, we customize a respectful and encouraging approach where parents provide a calm supportive presence to reassure their child while they learn essential independent sleep skills.
That said, we are honest about the fact that your child will protest as we embark on this journey. Each child is unique, and the amount of crying varies from one little to another. Their tears are a way for them to say “Hey! This is uncomfortable, I’m confused and I’d like to go back to my old sleep associations!” We understand that witnessing your child’s protest can be tough, and your sleep plan will help you to listen to your child’s cry so that you know how to respond based on what you’re hearing.
But here’s the silver lining – we are here to help you minimize the crying and provide you with coping strategies for any anxieties it may cause. You’re not alone; we’ll be by your side throughout this process, offering guidance and support every step of the way.
The best part? It won’t last forever! Trust us; the journey will lead you and your child to a rewarding destination – restful nights and a great night’s sleep for everyone. So let’s join forces, practice patience and kindness, and together, we’ll pave the way to peaceful nights ahead.
Yes, babies really can self-soothe, and it’s a beautiful thing!
From a Mindful Parenting perspective, we understand the concern about whether your baby can find comfort on their own. Rest assured, self-soothing is a natural and essential skill that babies can learn and develop over time.
We ask our parents to trust the process, and believe in your baby’s incredible ability to self-soothe. One of the most empowering moments as a parent is seeing how capable your child is as listening to their body and drifting off to sleep.
With nurturing and support, we help you guide your genius little bundle of joy towards the path of self-soothing. Remember, this doesn’t mean leaving your baby to cry it out alone. Instead, it’s about having a clear, step-by-step plan to offer reassurance and comfort while giving them the space to find their inner calm.
Sweet dreams await, and we’re here to support you every step of the way!
